The Community Center playground on S. Estes Drive in Chapel Hill will be closed starting Thursday for a major renovation project, according to the town's parks and recreation department.
Town landscape crews will be removing the existing wood fiber surface and wood borders. Starting next week, crews will take out the old poured-in-placed surfacing, pour concrete curbing, move the preschool play piece and install new poured-in-place surfacing under the equipment.
The new surface will completely replace the old poured-in-place and wood fiber surfaces, according to the town.
The play area will be closed for about 2.5 weeks.
