Training for Baby: Pregnancy dreams

I never knew that when you get pregnant, you start having these weird dreams. I have always had odd dreams, but since I have been pregnant I wake up more confused than ever!

In the first trimester, I must have been watching a lot of hockey because I dreamed one night that I was a player with the Carolina Hurricanes. It was up to me and my teammate – WRAL reporter Kevin Holmes – to score the winning goal to beat New Jersey to send us to the Stanley Cup finals. Kevin scored the goal, while I blocked for him. I can barely skate in real life, so I have no idea how I stayed upright! But I threw a few blocks and we won the game!

One second trimester morning, I awoke and was frantically checking my ankle and leg for a tattoo. Apparently, in another pregnancy dream, my best friend, Jennifer Aniston, and I decided to get matching tattoos on our right legs. We got two – a Grover and Elmo hybrid one on the shin and then a smaller one on the inside part of our ankle. I don’t know why we got those particular tattoos, but during the dream I remember freaking out and telling Jen that I really thought I made a mistake. How was I going to explain this to my baby one day? All I kept saying was, “This is going to hurt way more when I have it lasered off.” I awoke to find myself still tattoo free.

Now in the third trimester, I have had several dreams that made no sense.

My new best friend, Angelina Jolie, and I were getting our hair done. (I can’t stand either of these women, seriously. I have no idea why they are haunting me. Must be too much E! network before bed.) Angie and I ended up with the same ‘do! I didn’t want to look like her, I wanted to look like me. I was very aggravated! So weird.

The other dream involved a mean group of girls from high school who showed up at my baby shower and tried to hijack it because one of them was pregnant. I tried to escape, but the FBI and CIA were outside preventing people from coming in to help me. They said it was a terror threat. That’s what I get for watching USA’s “Burn Notice” before going to bed.

Did you have any strange dreams while pregnant?

I did have one wonderful dream during the second trimester where I was holding my baby. He was happy, healthy and beautiful. I had such a warm feeling that whole day. Why can’t I have more dreams like that?

Yes, I have especially crazy dreams when I am pregnant! Last night involved a huge helicopter crashing near our house and scooping up my mom before returning to the sky then crashing again. I don't remember most of them now but there certainly are some very crazy ones.

jacmic, LOL! My husband always gets a kick out of my weird dreams. And thank you, Go_APPS.

well, call me extremely late to the party! i read your blog religiously a few years ago as i was trying to get pregnant and was sad when you took a break. slacker that i am, didn't keep on top of things to see that CONGRATS were in order! ( i have a good excuse - my 10mo old daughter) i am so happy for you!!!!! don't worry, once mommy brain kicks in after the fact you will be more like "i THINK i had weird dreams, but i can't remember what they were" hahah good luck!!!

I dreamed, in my 2nd trimester, that I started seeing Lance Armstrong and that he had decided to leave Sheryl Crow for me. This is back when they were dating and I was watching the Tour de France.

With my first I dreamed I gave birth to a black lab puppy. Hubby and I were thrilled! It just seemed 'normal'. After all we have raised dogs so this would be so much easier than a human child!
