Help a Mom: Mom seeks play group for toddler son

Published: 2012-07-03 20:45:00
Updated: 2012-07-03 20:45:00

I received this email from a mom, who is looking for an outlet for herself and her toddler son.

Here's what she wrote:

I am the mother of a one-year-old who is looking for a play group where my son can play with other kids and I can meet other moms. I live in Harnett County and was wondering if you knew of any groups in my county or in Holly Springs or Fuquay-Varina. Please let me know.

I suggested that she check out Mothers of Preschoolers, which meets at local churches, and Meetup.com, where you'll find a variety of local parenting groups.

If you know of specific groups in that region, please share in the comments below. But, even if you don't know of groups, but have started your own play group or have thoughts on how she might find other moms to start her own, please share.

Please share your ideas in the comments box below. (If you don't see the comments box below, you'll need to log in or sign up for a WRAL account. You can do that by going to the top of the page and clicking on either "log in" or "register").

Thank you misst2 for sharing about the MOMS Club! I went to the national website and emailed to see if there were any local groups and never heard back! Glad to know of at least one!

Sarah

The MOMS Club of Fuquay-Varina/Holly Springs is a wonderful group of moms and could be just what you're looking for. We have age-based playgroups for our children and all of our activities include our children (with the exception of our MOMS Night Out once a month). We hold monthly meetings, various activity groups, and play dates each month. We truly are a group of Moms Offering Moms Support! Please contact us at momsclubfvhs@hotmail.com for much more information. Thanks!

I live in Harnett County, as well, but my son is 6. Since you're asking about Fuquay and Holly Springs I am guessing you're close to Angier. I highly reccomend trianglemommies.com. There are playgroups where the little ones play and you can meet other mommies. There are also "Mom's Night Out" events w/o the little ones in tow. You'll find Mom's with kids in all age ranges from pregnant to grown. :-) There's also a Johnstonmommies.com if you're closer to Clayton side than Angier and I believe maybe a Harnett Co chapter if you're further south in the county near Dunn/Erwin area.

I strongly agree with Sarah's suggestion of MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers). I have two little boys and another baby on the way and my MOPS group has been a lifesaver this last year. The kids get to play with other children and the moms have time together. We meet twice a month September through May and there is childcare while the moms meet for 2 hours and have our meeting (including crafts, games, speakers, videos, and lots of other fun things). Plus our group has Moms Night Out events and playdates. The group I go to meets at Holland's UMC which is about 15 minutes from Fuquay, so it might be a little far for the mom who is looking but I think it is well worth the drive. We have a lot of members who live in Fuquay and Holly Springs. Here is our website: http://www.hollandsumc.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=77:mops&catid=31:general.

I will be glad to give you more information about the group if you like.
