While we may think of “Carolina” as something all our own, we actually share the honors with our southern neighbors!

Like our great state, South Carolina has much to offer summer vacationers. The nice thing is they also drink their tea sweet. They use y’all. And, they’re close by! Why not save money this summer and take your family vacation “next door?”

Not sure where to begin? How about one of these fabulous South Carolina destinations?

Hilton Head Island. Almost to Georgia, but only a five hour drive from Raleigh, Hilton Head is a golf paradise. Shoppers and foodies will find everything they need here as well. Besides great golf, the island also boasts a number of public beaches, citywide parks, walking and biking trails. Every Tuesday night, the island puts on a great fireworks show in Shelter Harbor. It’s a quiet place to get away -- and it’s not expensive like many people think!
Myrtle Beach. Myrtle Beach and her slightly quieter neighbor, North Myrtle Beach, are just a three hour drive from the Raleigh area. The high inventory of hotel rooms means rates here are competitive. Spend a couple minutes Googling “Myrtle Beach Vacation Package” before you book a room. You’re bound to get free event tickets or restaurant gift cards as well.
Greenville. Those who prefer mountain views would enjoy Greenville, less than five hours from Raleigh. Again, the hotel inventory here is large so rooms are well-priced. Beyond cost, Greenville has a variety of arts centers, minor league baseball, great parks and a zoo. Through the conventions and visitors bureau, guests can book tours of waterfalls in the area, wineries, the BMW plant (how cool is that?) and more.
Charleston. Among the best destinations in the southeast, Charleston is about four hours from Raleigh. The city offers southern charm and modern service. Old town architecture is well-preserved. Tours, perhaps by horse-drawn carriage, are both entertaining and informative. An evening tour certainly offers romance. Why not take a break from the kids and reconnect here?

Head to South Carolina this summer and enjoy all our southern neighbor has to offer.
