History museum offers programs for kids 3 and up in July

Here's what the N.C. Museum of History has on tap for July.

The N.C. Museum of History in downtown Raleigh offers regular monthly programs for kids as young as age 3.

If you're looking for something to keep the kids busy during summer break or track outs, here's what's scheduled in July:

10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., July 10 or July 17: Time for Tots: Things That Go! Cars and trucks and things that go! Look at transportation items in the collection and create your own traveling machine to take home. Ages 3 to 5 with adult. The fee is $1 per person. Registration required. Call 919-807-7992.
10 a.m. to 11 a.m., July 11: History Corner: North Carolina Folklife. From the mountains to the sea, North Carolina craftspeople have made useful and beautiful objects for generations. Discover traditional arts, listen to a short story, and make a craft to take home. The program is presented with Cameron Village Regional Library. For ages 6 to 9 with adult. The fee is $1 per person. Registration required. Call 919-807-7992.
10 a.m. to 11 a.m., July 11: History Hunters: Spies! Can you keep a secret? Learn how North Carolinians kept — and found out! — secrets from the Civil War to World War II. For ages 10 to 13. The fee is $1 per person. Registration required. Call 919-807-7992.
1 p.m. to 3 p.m., July 14: Second Saturdays: Makin' Bowls. Watch woodworker Louis Sachs as he turns beautiful bowls on a lathe. The Henderson resident makes hand-turned bowls, platters, cutting boards and more. Visitors also will be able to make a simple craft from wood. The drop-in program is free.
