It’s not a term I would use to describe my oldest daughter. I would only use that term if I’m describing what Campbell literally wanted to be.

Last weekend, it was clean up time at our house. I mean a real, put everything where it belongs not where it’s convenient, kind of clean up. Campbell’s room was a mess. Clothes and toys everywhere. She’d prefer to shove the toys under her bed and put the clothes in the dirty clothes hamper, dirty or not. That wasn’t going to cut it this time.

I showed her where to put everything and told her to come and get me when she was done so I could inspect. There would be no playing until it was finished. The first inspection yielded clothes under the dresser, clothes hanging out the drawers and toys in the corner. Try again.

The second inspection revealed the toys were put away, but that’s it. What was she thinking? I told her to stop wasting my time.

Upon the third inspection, the clothes were completely in the dresser with the drawers closed and the clothes were put away from under the dresser.

But then I noticed a wad of clothes under her desk in the corner. I asked her what’s the deal with these? I got the typical kid response, “I don’t know.” I grab them and what comes rolling out…….but an egg! Not a fake one or a hard boiled one. A real, raw egg she’d taken from the fridge! I said, “late night snack?” Cam said, “no, I was trying to hatch it.”

She fessed up later: It had been there for at least two weeks. I remember how absolutely horrible rotten eggs smell from growing up on the farm. If that had broken in her room …

Could not determine what this odd smell was in his room...after searching, found a stash of old Flintstone vitamins in a drawer. I thought he was taking them each morning, but because he didn't like the taste of them he was stashing them in his room. Took a LONG time to get rid of the 'vitamin' smell!

Rocks (apparently the rock collection was going to branch out to become an actual yard) and petrified chicken nugget pieces (which after 2 months actually resembles the rocks).

well our cats like to leave little presents under their bed for some reason. Any cat lover I'm sure you know what!

When my son was 6, he had been playing outside in the yard. I was there the entire time and he never left my sight. Two days later, I did laundry. Imagine my surprise when I opened the washing machine to find several dead frogs in with the clothes. I freaked out!! Turns out my little darling had been collecting frogs which he, of course, put in his pockets. He forgot about them, and I didn't check his pockets before doing laundry. I checked his pockets after that, believe me! I'm just glad the little frogs didn't make it to the dryer.

Kids have the weirdest ideas, though, about how science works!

Must you ask? There are too many things to list! I don't allow food anywhere but the kitchen, but they still sneak it out. So we thoroughly clean at least once a week and it never fails that I am grossed out, if not by some piece of food (usually an apple core), then by laundry that had food stains on it. But with 4 under 8, there's always surprises, right?!

Oh my gosh did that bring back memories. I did the same thing when I was about eight. SAme with the clothes, under the bed or wherever they landed.

Killian, we had the same problem with ants in my son's bedroom desk. They had built a nest around an old christmas candy cane. Yuck! Also, my niece was a picky eater and she was found to be storing carrot sticks in her bedroom closet. This was discovered after her family had seen mice inside the house! I'd say a thorough cleaning is a good idea in every child's bedroom periodically! LOL.

My son had a jar that had a bit of apple sauce left in it. He wanted to see if it would grow new apples.

But after we got ants one summer, we had to institute a strict "no food in the bedrooms" policy.
