Marbles Kids Museum's IMAX theater in downtown Raleigh will open "The Gruffalo" on Monday as part of its ongoing series of kids movies.

The 28-minute animated short is based on the picture book by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Sheffler.

The movie, which was nominated for an Academy Award, stars Helena Bonham Carter, James Corden, Tom Wilkinson, Jon Hurt, Rob Brydon and Robbie Coltrane.

Here's a synopsis from Marbles: "The Gruffalo is a magical tale of a mouse who takes a walk through the woods in search of a nut. Encountering three predators (a fox, an owl and a snake) who all wish to eat him — the plucky mouse outwits them all by announcing he is meeting a monster with terrible features, called a ‘Gruffalo.’ As each predator cowers away, the Mouse grows increasingly confident as he makes his way through the woods, until he rounds a corner and comes face to face with the extraordinary product of his imagination: The Gruffalo."

Tickets are $5 per person.  A combination Marbles and Gruffalo ticket is $8 per person. Click here for more and the latest show times.
By coincidence, The Gruffalo is also the first movie to be featured in the N.C. Museum of Art's Wednesday afternoon Family Film series, which begins at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
