Historic Stagville and Morehead Planetarium and Science Center will team up for a special event this Friday that focuses on the night sky.
Stagville under the Stars is 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Friday, at Historic Stagville, a state historic site in Durham. The free, drop-in event will include storytelling and information about night sky myths and legends from African cultures, along with the related stories told by scientists today.
After storytelling, visitors can look at the moon and Saturn through a telescope. Morehead educators will lead a "constellation tour."
Stagville's original slave quarters from the 1800s will be lit by lantern for nighttime exploration. Historic interpreters will answer questions about the lives of the slaves who lived and worked at Stagville.
Be sure to bring a flashlight and blanket for this one!
Historic Stagville is at 5828 Old Oxford Hwy. in Durham.
