Pullen Park launches specialty art classes for kids

Pullen Park and Pullen Arts Center are working together to offer one to two hour specialty art classes for kids at Pullen starting this Saturday.

Classes meet at one of Pullen Park's shelters, its garden terrace or carousel. Each class is $12 for both Raleigh residents and non-residents. All materials will be provided. Registration is required as class size is limited. You must register by the end of the day on the Wednesday before the class.

Here's what's scheduled:

  • 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday. Bookmaking and Art Journaling for ages 8 to 14. In this two hour class, we will begin by learning to make our own art journals. After we make the journal, we will learn and practice different drawing techniques and talk about ideas for how to use an art journal to express your individual
    creativity.
  • 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., June 9. Star Books for ages 7 to 12. We’re exploring the art of bookmaking! In this one hour class, students will make small books out of folded paper that open into stars.
  • 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., June 9. Pamphlet Stitch Sketch Books for ages 6 to 11. Using black paper and recycled paper bags, you will learn how to make your own small sketch book in one hour. By the end, you will have a finished pamphlet stitch sketch book to take with you wherever you go.
  • 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or noon to 2 p.m., June 23. Watercolors in the Park for ages 6 to 11 years. While working outside and using the beautiful scenery of the park, you will learn to draw and paint using watercolors to create your own composition.
  • 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., June 30. Bookmaking and Art Journaling for ages 8 to 14. In this two hour class, we will begin by learning to make our own art journals. After we make the journal, we will learn and practice different drawing techniques and talk about ideas for how to use an art journal to express your individual
    creativity.
  • 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., July 7. Paper Beads for ages 7 to 12. Come create wonderful and colorful paper beads! Paper beads are great for jewelry, lanyards, tags for presents and much more! In this one hours session, you will learn different ways to create and paint paper beads.
  • 10 a.m. to noon, July 14. Watercolors in the Park for ages 6 to 11. While working outside and using the beautiful scenery of the park, you will learn to draw and paint using watercolors to create your own composition. The class meets at Pullen's carousel.
