For those of you with older kids, I wanted to highlight the summer camp program at Wake Tech.
The community college offers 19 different summer camp themes for kids ages 11 to 16. Most last a week. The first camp starts the week of June 11. The last begins July 23.
The themes are focused on special interests. So there's "Science Exploration for Girls," where campers participate in hands-on activities to learn how to solve a murder mystery using flowers in a forensic botany experiment.
There's the new Young Filmmakers Camp where kids who want to become directors or love working with digital video equipment will get some hands-on training on interviewing subjects, operating a camera and more.
Future Stars Drama Camp will give campers an opportunity to have an onstage and backstage role. The camp concludes with a public performance.
Other camps include Public Safety Careers Camp, where kids can explore the roles of firefighters, paramedics and other professions in a mock emergency situation; a Spanish Language Camp; a Youth Entrepreneurship Camp; and Video Game Design.
The camps take place at Wake Tech's campuses around the county. The cost depends on the camp, but range in price from $225 to $350.
