I'll never forget meeting with Sarah Whitenack, a Raleigh mom who lost her daughter Clare at 19 months to Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. I wrote about Whitenack and her family's experience last June as she organized the first Clare's Run for a Reason.
The event raises money and awareness of Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood, a cousin to the more common Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, the sudden and unexplained death of children under the age of one. SUDC happens to children older than one, often in their toddler years.
Whitenack tells me that last year's event raised $17,000 for SUDC research and more than 350 people attended! I know she'd love to grow it again this year.
She's planning the second annual Clare's Run for a Reason on June 23 at the cross country course at Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary. There's a 5K run, a one-mile Family Fitness Walk, kids' activities, a silent auction, music and refreshments.
Registration is open now. Click here for all the details. And best wishes to Sarah for another great event!
