Why these parents cloth diaper

Published: 2012-04-22 20:45:00

I had the pleasure of being an "official witness" at the Great Cloth Diaper Change event at SmartMomma in north Raleigh on Saturday.

The event was one of three in the area that aimed to help set a Guinness World Record for the most cloth diapers changed at one time. GreenPea Baby in Apex and SweetBottoms Baby Boutique in Cary also participated. Thousands of other parents changed their baby's cloth diapers at similar events around the world.

The goal was to raise awareness of cloth diapering. But it also provided a chance for cloth diapering families to get together and talk.

I usually feature a local mom in this space on Mondays. But, today, I thought I'd feature several moms and a dad, who all cloth diaper. On Saturday, they included two moms who have been using cloth diapers since about the time their children were born; a dad who is cloth diapering his second child; and a mom who started cloth diapering on Saturday.

Thank you to Heather of SmartMomma and Karissa of The Diapering Doula and The Family Nest) for inviting me (even though I didn't cloth diaper my own kids) and thanks to the parents who spoke with me about their experience!

If you're considering cloth diapering, all of these stores are great resources with supplies and information about how to get started.

Go Ask Mom features local moms every Monday.
