Lynda Loveland: Kid logic

I realize saying "kid logic" is a bit of an oxymoron. But my eight-year-old daughter Campbell has all kinds of logical reasons for things.

For her NCAA tournament bracket, she picked Michigan State. When they lost, she said no, she really wanted Kentucky. She only meant that she wanted to VISIT Michigan. Riiiiighhht.

She came up to me one night and said, “Dad should do what you say, he should listen to you.”

I had no idea what prompted this whole conversation, but I played along. I said, “Campbell, why do you think that?” She said, “Well mom, you’re taller, older and you’re a woman. That’s why!”

Now THAT’S my girl!!!!!!!

First of all you need to understand that I have an aversion to condiments especially mayo, miracle whip and mustard. I was keeping my grandson (3 1/2) so his parents could finish Christmas shopping. I fixed him a ham sandwich and he said he wanted mustard on it. He wouldn't eat unless I took a bite too. I kept trying to convince him that his granny bam didn't like mustard but his response was 'Just try it bam, it's really good, you might like it if you'd try it, you don't know if you don't try'

Ok, I took a bite and swallowed it. What we will do for a grandchild :)

When my dauther was about 3 years old we saw a rescue squad going down the road with lights going. I told her that there must have been an accident. She said, "Did someone go potty in their pants?"

When my son was 6, I loaded an educational software package on an old computer I was no longer using. I had a little trouble with the setup. Even IT guys like me have problems with outdated drivers. At one point, he got annoyed and said "Dad, do I have to show you everything?"

my 5 year old daughter said to me one time "mommy, I'm glad you take care of us. I said " but honey daddy takes care of you too". Her response was "oh no mommy, if daddy took care of us we would probably starve and never get to school on time". I thought that was too funny.

A few days before Easter this year, my eight year old son who's been wanting a Wii game that costs $99, says I wonder what the Easter bunny is going to bring me this year. I said probably the usual Easter basket contents little candy, books, games, etc. He said I hope he brings me the Wii game I want. I told him the Easter bunny doesn't have a workshop like Santa. I then got the "you don't know anything" look. "Mom, the Easter bunny and Santa talk and if the Easter bunny needs something for an Easter basket Santa sends it to him." Duh! Kid Logic and Parent's ignorance go hand in hand.

I remember as a kid telling my parents that I was older than my mom because my birthday came before hers.... Daddy was oldest, because his birthday was in January, then me in June, then Mom in September. Made sense to me.....
