Egg hunts postponed because of rain

Posted March 31, 2012

It's deja vu all over again. Last year, many of the region's most popular egg hunts were postponed because of rain.

This year, it's the same story.

Here's what I have so far. Check the box to the left for links.

Cary's egg hunt at Bond Park will not be held today. The rain date is Sunday, but only the afternoon hunts will be held.

Garner's Spring Eggstravaganza at Lake Benson Park has been moved to 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday. The egg hunt will be at 2 p.m.

Orange County's celebration at River Park in Hillsborough will not be today. It's been rescheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday.

The hunt in Zebulon has been canceled.

The activities at Brier Creek Community Center are still on. I'm told everything has been moved inside. Starts at 11 a.m.

The hunt at Mordecai Historic Park in Raleigh is still on unless the weather is too severe to move forward. It's at 11 a.m.

And Pullen Park's hunt has been postponed until 4 p.m. Monday. Here's Monday's schedule of events at Pullen:

9:30 a.m.: Playground and ticket sales open

10 a.m.: Rides open

4 p.m.: Arts and crafts

5 p.m.: Egg hunt

That's what I have so far. Today was the big day for egg hunts. There are many more across the region today. If you planned on going to one that's not listed here, I definitely recommend checking before you go.

If you know of other cancellations or changes, please share in the comments.

North Durham Baptist Church has postponed their Easter Egg Hunt & Hot Dog Lunch to this Saturday, April 7 from 11:00am - 1:00pm. We are located at 6036 Guess Rd., approx. 2 miles North of Latta Rd. The event is FREE, so come on out & have fun!! There will be some carnival games to play after the hunt.

Yes, when the parents get in the way and start grabbing eggs (you'd think each egg had money inside!)... it's time to have your own egg hunt ... We always have one in our neighborhood - sponsored by the HOA and sometimes my neighbors and I have one with a few friends... The kids love it! (and it's cheap candy :-))_

Gabby01--I totally understand what you're saying! We took our 2 year old twins many years ago to the Cary Egg Hunt. The parents were picking up the eggs faster than the kids and filling their baskets. One daughter got 2 eggs and her sister got 0. The one shared so they each left with 1 egg. They didn't seem bothered, but I was in tears! Sad to hear it hasn't changed.

Families should plan their own smaller versions with family, friends and neighbors. No disappointments necessary.

Don't even get me started on the Cary Egg Hunt! Took my 3yo daughter and got her all set with her basket. The whistle blew and off she went picking up the eggs in plain sight (grassy square roped off, you could see the whole area). When all of a sudden all the caryite parents swarmed the grass with their little darlings....I lost sight of my girl. I eventually found her. Stupid parents!
