UPDATE: Ack! I just learned that the camp was canceled over the weekend.
St. Paul's Center for Hope and Healing in Cary has programs this summer to help make the transition to middle school smoother for parents and kids.

They sound like great opportunities for families. I'm told there are still plenty of slots.

Here's what's offered:

  • 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Aug. 6 to Aug. 10, Middle School Madness: Skills, Tips and Techniques for Surviving and Thriving in Middle School, a camp for students entering middle school. This week-long, half-day camp, led by Tammy Finch, PhD, will provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to get off to a great start in middle school. This camp is open to any student entering middle school and features topics, including organization, friendships, peer pressure and relationships. The cost is $150 and includes a parent education class. Students attending this camp take home a binder full of helpful techniques and tips, as well as the book Middle School Confidential: Be Confident in Who You Are by Anne Fox.
  • 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Aug. 9, Middle School Survival: What Every Parent Needs to Know About Parenting Tweens. The information session for parents of students entering middle school is part of the Middle School Madness camp. Tammy Finch, PhD, is presenting this complimentary parent education session. It will be an information-packed, fast-paced tour of parenting an adolescent, including must-have skills and strategies for helping your child navigate the middle school years. The workshop is $25 or free with a student's enrollment in the Middle School Madness camp.
