JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh will have a unique twist on the traditional egg hunt this year.
From March 31 to April 8, the arboretum will host a spring egg scavenger hunt. This is a free drop-in, self-guided activity that just happens to be offered during a week when many kids will be on spring break.
Start the hunt by picking up a clue sheet in the Bobby G. Wilder Visitor Center. Then search the arboretum for eight colorfully painted (plywood) eggs with letters on them. The letters form a secret word. Unscramble the letters and report the secret word to staff at the visitor center to collect a prize. The family activity is designed for all ages.
The arboretum is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. starting in April. The hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. now. The visitor center, where you'll need to get the clue sheet and share the secret word, is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturdays; and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sundays. The arboretum is located at 4415 Beryl Rd. in Raleigh between N.C. State and the N.C. State Fairgrounds.
