Raleigh opens new playground for children of all abilities

The new playground at Method Road Park opened this week thanks to a grant from CVS Caremark.

Raleigh opened a new playground Wednesday that's designed for children of all abilities, including those in wheelchairs.

The playground at Method Park near the State Fairgrounds was built thanks to a $50,000 grant from CVS Caremark All Kids Can Program. The program works to make life easier for children with disabilities and raise awareness about the importance of inclusion.
Boundless Playgrounds, the leading nonprofit developer of inclusive playgrounds for children of all abilities, designed the equipment. This is the second Boundless Playground in Raleigh. The first is at Marsh Creek Community Park, 3016 New Hope Rd., in east Raleigh.

The new playground has equipment designed for 2 to 5-year-olds and 5 to 12-year-olds. It includes a play structure with a ramp wide enough for wheelchairs. You'll find accessible swings, along with traditional belt and bucket swings. And there also are a variety of drums and other noise-making play pieces. The surface under all of the equipment is very springy rubber matting.

It's not a huge playground, but my kids weren't ready to go when it was time to leave after 30 minutes of play.

The playground sits next to the Method Community Center, where you'll find bathrooms and other programming.
