Polar Ice House is offering free introductory hockey lessons to kids ages 3 to 5 on Saturday with the purchase of admission and skate rentals.

From 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., Saturday, at Polar Ice House's Cary location, kids can skate around the rink or participate in the mini-hockey lesson given by Polar Ice House's instructors.

The mini-lessons will be given in a blocked off section of the rink so kids can learn about the sport without getting overwhelmed by the open skate crowd. Polar Ice House will provide an equipment bag with a helmet, shin guards, gloves, hockey pants, elbow pads, stick, jersey and socks for use throughout the open skate session. Each lesson is limited to 20 players and will run from 20 to 30 minutes. Arrive no later than 1 p.m. to sign up.

Polar Ice House's Rink Rats program is designed for kids ages three to five and features instruction, drills, development activities, games and scrimmages. Mice on Ice is an introductory skating class, which is a prerequisite to Rink Rats.
