Open house in Wake to feature resources, information for parents of special needs kids

The Special Education Advisory Council will host an open house this week for Wake County parents of kids with special needs.
The fourth annual event is Thursday at Broughton High School, 723 St. Mary's St., in Raleigh.
Doors open at 6 p.m. with a resource fair. That's followed by a welcome from Dr. Lisa Grillo, assistant superintendent of special education at 7 p.m. Information sessions begin at 7:30 p.m. Childcare will not be available.
The resource fair will feature information about support groups, recreation and leisure providers, afterschool and track-out programs and more for special needs kids.
The open house includes sessions for parents of preschoolers to high schoolers with special needs. Topics include an overview of the preschool special education program to graduation requirements.
