The Broad Street Cafe in Durham has had a great kids performance series for a few years now. And this week, you'll find the Sandbox Band performing its take on classic kids songs, along with the band's originals.

The band will play from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Sunday, at the cafe, 1116 Broad St., in Durham. The concert is free. The family-friendly venue serves up food and drinks (Sandbox recommends the personal pizzas). It's a great place for an afternoon of good music, food and family fun.

The cafe's kids series runs from October to March on the first and third Sunday afternoons of each month. They are all free.

The next BSC Kids performance is 4:30 p.m., March 4, featuring Laura Janelle Royster's Mother Goose. Royster's three CD set of music includes local and nationally known musicians who helped to develop educational-based material and music using styles from bluegrass to pop and techno.

The season finale is 4:30 p.m., March 18, featuring the band Big Bang Boom. The Greensboro-base children's music group includes Chuck Folks (younger brother of piano rocker Ben Folds), Steve Williard and Eddie Walker.
