Cary will be the focus of the table tennis world this week when the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials take over Bond Park Community Center.

It all begins Thursday and runs through Sunday. And with tickets between $5 and $10, it might be a good bet for a family activity.

We're not talking about your garden variety rec room table tennis here. This is Olympic-level play. The top placewinners in this week's matches will compete in the North American Olympic Trials, scheduled for April in Cary. The top two women and top three men from that event will qualify to represent their country at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.

Daily tickets are on sale now. They are $5 on Thursday (when play is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and $10 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Tickets can be purchased online or at the Cary Arts Center Box Office. There also could be tickets available on site at the Bond Park Community Center beginning with the start of the competition.
