The playground at Piney Wood Park in Durham offers plenty of places for kids to climb, along with slides and swings.

Kelli Clough, a Durham mom, recommended I check out the playground at Piney Wood Park. Clough, the owner of My Lullabug, who I featured on the site a couple of weeks ago, said her three sons love the playground, especially climbing the sections with ropes.

Piney Wood, part of the Durham parks system, sits near the Woodcroft neighborhood and not too far from The Streets at Southpoint mall. You'll also find sports fields, dog park and picnic areas here, but my focus is on the playground.

The playground offers play equipment for kids 2 to 5 and 5 to 12. You'll find traditional play pieces here - slides and swings. But Piney Wood also includes some of the climbing pieces that we're seeing at most new playgrounds. These offer more ways to play than just your standard monkey bars. They include lots of ropes and parts that move, making play a bit more challenging, which I fully endorse.

The surface under the play equipment is mulch.

I also like that the playground is right next to a natural area for kids to roam and explore.

Take a closer look in the video. Piney Wood Park is at 400 E. Woodcroft Parkway in Durham.
