Usually when I feature moms here on Go Ask Mom, my interviews with them are planned weeks, sometimes months in advance.

Not so with Melissa Russell, owner of Glee Kids in downtown Chapel Hill. I walked into her store the other week after a trip to Kidzu Children's Museum, started talking to her and introduced myself.

Then I mentioned that I featured local moms every Monday. Would she be interested? Would she want to do it right then?

Happily for me, Russell was game.

Glee Kids in University Square on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill will celebrate its five-year anniversary next month. The clothing and gift store for kids features clothes for girls ages 0 to 10 and for boys ages 0 to 8. It is a destination store for the popular Tea line of clothing, making it a draw for shoppers from across the region.

"It's a great line, all inspired by a different country," Russell said.

You'll also find a nice mix of books and toys. There's a train table to keep your kids (including my two-year-old) occupied while you shop.

Glee Kids offers regular programs, including a monthly event with Kidzu, which is steps away. On the first Saturday of each month, Glee Kids teams up to offer a special storytime featuring local authors and storytellers, followed by an activity at Kidzu. It's designed for kids 3 to 8.

The next one is 10:30 a.m., Saturday. They'll read "Sandy's Circus: A Story about Alexander Calder" at Glee Kids. Then participants can head over to Kidzu for a Calder-inspired craft. This is a free program at Glee Kids. Regular admission is required at Kidzu.

Every couple of months, photographer Abigail Blosser also offers photography sessions at Glee Kids. In January, she captured kids with their loveys.

For Russell, who moved to Chapel Hill from Boston in 2004, the business has been a perfect way to mix motherhood and career. Her daughters are 7 and 11.

"I've been very lucky," she says. "I work in the story from 10 to 2 everyday and I pick them up from school in the afternoon."

You'll find Glee Kids at 133-C West Franklin St. Watch my interview with Russell and go to Glee Kids' website for more.
