Raleigh parks announced the change this afternoon. As I reported earlier this week, plans had called for the park to be closed on Monday. Starting this month, the city scaled back the operating hours for the rides and closed them on Mondays through March.

This week, however, the rides will be open on Monday, when schools are closed to mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Instead, the park's rides will be closed on Tuesday to perform routine maintenance. It will reopen for normal daily operations on Wednesday.

The hours for the rides are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pullen's playground and grounds are open daily from dusk to dawn. Pullen Place Cafe is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The park has been packed with people since it reopened in November. Park staff expect lots of traffic there again during this holiday weekend. Overflow parking is available in the Cates Avenue parking deck on N.C. State's campus on weekends only. Park visitors can use pedestrian walkways from the deck to get to Pullen.

And, starting Sunday, Pullen Place Cafe will serve up a special meal in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

Inspired by King's love of southern fare, Pullen Place will offer a special $10 menu featuring ribs, green bean casserole, cornbread and sweet or unsweet tea from Sunday to Jan. 23. In addition to the 10-day special, 10 percent of all sales on Monday, King Day, will go to the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle.

Pullen Place is working with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle on a variety of projects, including job training, food purchases, donations and outreach.
