Help a Mom: Mom looking for a primary care physician

Posted January 17, 2012

We've covered pediatricians and OB/GYNs in our Help a Mom series. Now a mom is looking for a primary care physician.

Here's what she wrote:

My kids have their pediatric doctor. I have an OB/GYN, but need a recommendation from readers on a primary care physician that I can go to for minor sickness and illness should they arise. I have picked one (Rex Family Care in Knightdale), but would like more insight on doctors and their experiences.

I see Dr. Monica Barnes-Durity in Morrisville at the Duke Primary Care. What I especially like about Duke is all of their online features and how if you go to any of their doctors they can all network and you always have access to your medical records, lab reports, etc. Her number is 919-327-1630.

I have been seeing Ken Lake (a physician's assistant) as my primary doctor for almost 17 years. He's wonderful with me and with my kids. I also like Dr. Young and Dr. Gilmore. The nurses are great, too.

I use Dr. Mary MacKenzie at Primary Medical Care in Cary. They are located near Davis Dr and High House. She and her staff are a caring and understanding group. She has a PA and Nurse Practitioner if she is not available. I have seen all of them and recommend this practice highly.

We use Wake Forest Pediatrics On 1A in Wake Forest (almost across the street from Walmart) I prefer Dr. Davis but have seen almost all of the Dr's there and all of them are GREAT. They also have an office on Village Park Dr. in Knightdale. they have special sick hours and an on call nurse (free) or on call Dr ($10) charge for after hour help. Everyone there is helpful, prompt and friendly.
