Photo Tip: Moms miss out on their own photo opportunities

Posted December 13, 2011

We're back with Christy Johnson, a mom, photographer and owner of Be True Image Design. Today, she's offering another quick photography tip for moms.

"We're typically the historians of the family," Johnson says. But, "we often forget that we need to be in the photo too."

Johnson says moms need to stop worrying about that 20 pounds they might want to lose or the fact it's been months since they got their hair cut and get in front of the camera. The kids won't care, she says. In fact, they'll be disappointed that there aren't more of you.

"I know my kids are going to want to see me with them," Johnson said. Christy Johnson Photo Tip: Moms miss out on their own photo opportunities

For more, watch my video interview with Johnson. Johnson, who is based in Rolesville, is an on location photographer and blogger, who offers regular photography tips on her blog. She also offers workshops geared toward moms who want to learn more about photography. She has two workshops scheduled for January. For more information, go to the Be True Image Design website.

I agree completely! My child was a year old before I realized we had 400-500 pictures of my (self absorbed) inlaws with my children and barely any of us.....simply because we were always the one taking pictures. One holiday I handed my camera to my inlaws to take pictures of us, so at least there are a couple of pictures of us with our kids that holiday.

Frankly, when they are involved in a gathering now, I take a lot less pictures of them, and more pictures of just my kids! If they want pictures of my kids, they can bring their own camera!
