Montessori Children's House of Durham has a lot to celebrate right now.

This year, it's marking 35 years of teaching kids, ages 18 months to sixth grade, in the Triangle.

And next year, it will move to a brand new campus on six wooded acres next to Durham City Park. The property is on Pickett Road, about two miles from the school's current location at 2400 University Dr. in Durham.

The new space will allow the school to boost its programs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers starting next fall. Its Pre-Three program for infants and toddlers will triple in size. Its preschool will expand from three to four classrooms.

The school will hold an open house this weekend for prospective parents. It is a good chance for parents to learn more about Montessori, the school and the new campus, Leslie King, a current parent at the school tells me.

The open house is 3 p.m .to 5 p.m., Sunday, at 2400 University Dr., in Durham. Parents are welcome to arrive at any time between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., but are encouraged to leave enough time to walk through the school and talk to both teachers and parents. Call 919-489-9045 or check out the school's website for more information.

The school, one of four Montessori schools in North Carolina fully accredited by the American Montessori Society, is currently accepting applications for the 2012-2013 school year. Starting in the fall, after school care will be available until 6 p.m. for all kids ages 3 to 12.
