We all give thanks this time of year for our family, friends, health and the list goes on. I’m thankful for all those things too. But I’m particularly thankful for one of my friends. We’ll call him Jake. (Protecting the innocent here.) Let me tell you why.
Every week I write about the latest drama/dilemma in my family. When I think about some of the things my kids do, I’m afraid they’re going to turn out to be terrible, non-contributing members of society.
But thanks to Jake, I now know that kids are capable of worse things.
Jake has been regaling me with stories of his childhood. And they're enough to make your hair stand on end!
Take the time that Jake took food from the refrigerator and launched it down the stairs to the tiled basement floor to watch it explode! It started with a big baked potato and continued with GLASS jars of jelly and other stuff! Whatever he could find. The basement floor was covered by the time he was done! Did I mention he brought his younger brother into his reindeer games and when they went to clean up the mess, his brother slipped and sliced open his knee on the glass? You can’t make this stuff up!
In Jake's defense, he says he was always respectful to his parents and did well in school. He just happened to be a wild child.
Jake's a great guy who has done well for himself. Jake gives me hope for my kids. Not to mention lots of great advice. (Insert smiley face here.) Thanks Jake!
