Lynda Loveland: Calm after the storm

I want to thank everyone for their support on my blog last week. I was a bit worried about posting it. I thought I would be bashed for being a horrible mom. It felt good to know I wasn’t alone.

I’m happy to say this week has been MUCH better. Around dinner time yesterday, normally chaotic, I caught myself thinking, “Wow, I feel calm and everything seems to be running smoothly!" And I feel like I’ve hit another benchmark with the kids.

Along the way to pick up my daughter from daycare, I stopped at the neighbors house to tell my son where I was going. I then told my daughter as I passed her cruising on her bike with her friends.

I smiled to myself as I drove away, thinking my kids are finally at that point where they can go play down the street with their friends without my constant supervision. I felt like I suddenly got a little freedom too!

But of course we moms can never be completely satisfied. Because that thought of freedom was quickly replaced by, oh no, they’re going to be grown up by next week and I’m going to miss it!

Good grief, can I not have my cake and eat it too? But I gotta tell ya, having a quiet house while I’m making dinner …. is pure bliss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
