2011-12 Children's Series: Carolina Theatre in Durham

Shows include John Tartaglia's ImaginOcean, The Nutcracker and Max and Ruby at Durham's Carolina Theatre.

The newly renovated Carolina Theatre in Durham features a variety of shows for school groups each year. It also brings in some family shows for the general public too.

Here's what's scheduled for this season:

  • 6 p.m., Tuesday, John Tartaglia's ImaginOcean. From the creator of Avenue Q, comes a unique black-light puppet show that is a magical musical undersea adventure for kids of all ages. Three best friends, who happen to be fish, set out on a journey of discovery. Tickets are $22.
  • 7 p.m., Dec. 1, Voyager Academy's Songwriters Night. Voyager Academy presents an evening with award-winning songwriters Tim Nichols, Ben Hayslip, Deric Ruttan and a special guest. Come and hear the creators of some of the biggest hits tell the stories behind the songs and perform them live. Tickets are $15.
  • 7 p.m., Dec. 10, and 2 p.m., Dec. 11, Triangle Youth Ballet presents The Nutcracker. Tickets are $6 for kids 6 and under; $18 for students and seniors; and $23 for the general public.
  • 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., March 10, The Peking Acrobats. Experts at treacherous wire-walking, trick-cycling, precision tumbling, somersaulting, and gymnastics – The Peking Acrobats defy gravity with amazing displays of contortion, flexibility, and control. Set to a live Chinese Orchestra these acrobats pull out all the stops to create a thrilling entertainment experience audiences won't soon forget. Tickets are $32 to $42. Kids 12 and under get $10 off a $32 ticket.
  • 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., April 21, Max and Ruby: Bunny Party. Join bunny siblings Max and Ruby as they embark on a musical bus ride to find the greatest present in the world for the Bunny Party. This fast-paced theatrical production will have the whole audience singing and hopping to original tunes. Tickets are $16 to $36.
