Local schools will be vying for grants next weekend at the Wake PTA Council's fourth annual Healthy Lifestyles 5K Run/Walk at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
Proceeds from the race are used to provide grants to PTAs at local schools in Wake County to use for healthy lifestyles programming. The grants are awarded to the schools with the highest participation level at the race. Participants can be runners, walkers or volunteers. Last year's top winning school received $1,000. Three other schools received $500 each.
The event always includes lots of school-aged participants. About 500 people came out for the event last year.
The race is Nov. 20. For details about how to get involved, check the website.
