Monday is a teacher workday for Wake County traditional calendar schools. And I will be among the thousands of other parents across the Triangle looking to keep my kids occupied while they count down to trick-or-treat time.

Of course, the region's pumpkin patches and corn mazes are open. Click here for our database. Check our 2011 Go Ask Mom Halloween page for recipes, crafts, tips and more. And if you're wondering when neighborhood trick-or-treating might be happening across the region, click here for a list with information about nearly three dozens towns and cities.

Here are some other events on Monday that might keep you busy. Happy Halloween!

Marbles Kids Museum, which is usually closed on Mondays, will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. The museum will feature a variety of Halloween-related activities all day. Its IMAX theater also is screening "Spookley the Square Pumpkin," a 45-minute, G-rated, not-really-spooky Halloween movie. Click here for showtimes. The 3D version of "Puss in Boots" also is scheduled.
Quail Ridge Books and Music will have its regular preschool storytime at 10 a.m. Monday with a Halloween theme. The storytime is geared toward kids ages 2 to 5. Kids can come in costume. Sonja Noykos of Music Together will help celebrate.
Garner will celebrate the completion of its South Garner Greenway, a 10-foot-wide paved trail that connects Timber Drive near Buckingham Road to the trails at White Deer Park. It's about six-tenths of a mile long. A ribbon cutting ceremony is from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday. It's followed by trick-or-treating along the trail from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Kids are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes. Parking will be available at White Deer Park, 2400 Aversboro Rd., Garner.
West Regional Library, 4000 Louis Stephens Dr. in Cary, will host Pumpkin Palooza from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., Monday. It's a family storytime followed by fun and games. Costumes encouraged. There will be some "light trick-or-treating."
Durham County libraries will host a variety of Halloween events for kids and teens. Some require pre-registration. Check the calendar for details on all of them.
Not Halloween-related, but still entertaining. The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences opened its new 3D theater this weekend. It is now showing "Tornado Alley," which documents the birth of a tornado. Showtimes are 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tickets to the movie (admission to the museum is always free) is $4 for adults; $3.50 for senior ages 65 and up, student and military; and $3 for children (2 to 11).

And area malls are opening their doors for trick-or-treaters. Not every merchant will hand out candy at the malls. So if you go to one of the mall events, be sure you find out how you can tell which stores are participating. Often it's a sign or balloon in the front window.

Mall events include:

The town of Cary and Cary Towne Center will team up for Safe-N-Sane Halloween from 5:30 p.m . to 7:30 p.m. Monday. Event includes trick-or-treating, costume contests, entertainment and a lot more. For ages 15 and under.
Crossroads Plaza in Cary will have trick-or-treating from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday. Also on Halloween, kids ages 12 and under in costume can eat for free with any adult meal purchase at Dickey's Barbecue Pit at Crossroads.
Halloween trick-or-treating is from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday, at University Mall in Chapel Hill.
Trick-or-treating is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, at Triangle Town Center and Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh and Cross Creek Mall in Fayetteville.

Customer service representatives at both The Streets at Southpoint and Northgate Mall in Durham tell me that they will not be offering trick-or-treating this year.
