Parents and teachers are invited to In the Dirt: School Gardens, a free workshop that will focus on starting and maintaining edible school gardens in Wake County.

The free, interactive workshop is 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Oct. 6, at Brier Creek Community Center in north Raleigh. Advocates for Health in Action, a group of more than 50 organizations and community members who seek to make healthful eating and physical activity a way of life, is hosting the program.

The workshop will explore how gardening clubs and school gardens can be used to encourage students to eat healthy, local foods. The workshop is free, but registration is required. To find out more, check the website.
