Here's what family spots are open Labor Day weekend

We have the long Labor Day weekend ahead of us. Check the Weekend Plans post for weekend activities. And here is the Labor Day schedule for favorite family spots in the region.

Marbles Kids Museum, which is closed on most Mondays, will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Labor Day. The downtown Raleigh museum will feature all kinds of activities and games to say so long to summer.

The Museum of Life and Science in Durham will be open on Labor Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. as usual.

The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh will be open on Labor Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as usual.

The N.C. Museum of History in downtown Raleigh will be open Labor Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as usual.

The N.C. Museum of Art in Raleigh will be closed on Labor Day, as usual. But it's museum park, a great place for a stroll and picnic, will be open.

Morehead Planetarium and Science Center in Chapel Hill is closed for regular maintenance. It will reopen Sept. 17.

Kidzu Children's Museum in Chapel Hill remains closed as it prepares to open in a new temporary space on Franklin Street. It is expected to reopen sometime this month. Fingers crossed!

And if you're up for a drive ...

The N.C. Zoo in Asheboro, about a 90 minute drive from the Triangle depending on where you are starting from, is open on Labor Day. And there is a deal this month where you can get $2 off if you have a library card. Click here for details.

The N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer, about two hours from the Triangle, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Labor Day.

And Tryon Palace in New Bern, about two hours from the Triangle, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Labor Day. I recently visited Tryon Palace with my kids and will have more on this historic site later this month, but I highly recommend a visit here.
