Playground Review: Westover Park
This small park and playground in Durham offers some unique climbing pieces.

I mentioned Durham's Westover Park in my post last week on the new playground at Waverly Place shopping center in Cary. I thought I'd show it to you today.
The small park in Durham features a similar climbing piece to the one at Waverly Place, Raleigh's indoor playground at Greystone Recreation Center and elsewhere. It features ropes to climb and moving rings to climb through. Unlike your typical monkey bars, which kids hop on at one end and swing to the other, these play sets, designed for kids ages 5 to 12, allow kids to start playing on the piece in a variety of spots.
You'll also find a rock to climb up. It took my six-year-old a few tries to figure out the best way to get to the top. Once she got the hang of it, she was scrambling up there in less than 10 seconds.
The playground also includes a small piece for younger kids with a slides and some swings - bucket and big kid.
Westover Park, 1900 Maryland Ave., is less than two miles from the Museum of Life and Science, making it a good place to stop for a quiet picnic or snack before or after a visit there. There are picnic tables here (but no bathrooms).
