As I introduced last week, I'll be writing about all the great performance series for kids coming up. I've written about the N.C. Symphony's series before, but I wanted to highlight it again (because they really are fantastic).

Here's the N.C. Symphony's Young People's Series for the season:

  • Beethoven Lives Upstairs, 11 am. or 4 p.m., Nov. 19. A madman has moved in upstairs, and young Christoph and his uncle are on the hunt to find out just what’s going on up there. Delight in this hour-long romp into the work of Ludwig van Beethoven, including excerpts from many of his greatest works. Enjoy live performances of the “Moonlight” Sonata, Für Elise, the Ninth Symphony and more. NOTE: This is the same day as the Raleigh Christmas Parade and opening of Pullen Park.
  • Green Eggs and Ham, 11 a.m. or 4 p.m., Jan. 7. Would you like them in a house? Would you like them with a mouse? Would you like them on a ball? How ‘bout Meymandi Concert Hall? Join Rob Kapilow, composer of The Polar Express, as he puts his unique spin on Dr. Seuss’s beloved story about Sam-I-Am and his green eggs and ham.
  • Bug Songs, 11 a.m. or 4 p.m., March 10. The bugs are swarming your concert hall! But don’t fret, they’re here for the music. Come and listen to the orchestra imitate the sounds of the greatest musicians in the bug world: bees, beetles, crickets, katydids and more. You’ll also hear great music inspired by your smallest friends, including everyone’s favorite, Flight of the Bumblebee. Dress like your favorite insect and win prizes!

These hour-long concerts are designed for kids ages 4 to 12 and their families. Tickets are on sale now. Single tickets are $20 each. Or, you can buy a YPC Series ticket for $36 each, which will get you into all three concerts, making it $12 per ticket.

I have started to compile these posts into one page so you can refer back to it over the year. Click here to see the page and check back as it will be updated regularly.
