Preschools report high number of openings for fall

Preschool directors are faced with low enrollment as they prepare for the start of the school year.

I'm hearing from several preschool and day care directors that they have more than the usual number of openings right now for this time of year.

It's the sign of the times, I'm sure, as families struggle and search for cheaper child care options or can no longer afford them after a job loss.

I've heard from HopeKids Preschool in Garner, First Presbyterian Church Child Development Center in downtown Raleigh and Ashebridge Children's Academy in Cary. All have openings in multiple, if not all, classes. (Full disclosure: My older daughter at one time attended First Presbyterian, a full-time day care).
And when I posted about preschool openings this afternoon on the Go Ask Mom Facebook page, about a dozen readers quickly responded with information about openings at schools in Raleigh, Cary, Fayetteville, Cary, Durham and Smithfield. One reader said that enrollment at her preschool is at a record low.

So if you're still looking for a preschool, it looks like there is plenty of room for your child. If your school has openings, please post here, on our Facebook page or both.

You can also find information for dozens of preschools in the region on our Go Ask Mom preschool database.
