Go Ask Mom

Amanda Lamb: School rocks

I remember that feeling as a child when the dog days of summer seemed to soldier on endlessly. Bottom line, my kids are ready for school and so am I.

“Mommy, I can’t wait to go back to school. I’m soooooo bored,” my youngest said to me the other day as she and her sister watched “Home Alone 2” on DVR for the umpteenth time.

“What do you miss the most about school?” I asked her.

“Friends,” she said without hesitation.

Let me just say that our summer has been jam packed with swim team, beach trips and camps (photography, dance and vacation bible school to name a few.) So, it is hard for me to completely buy the boredom argument. Still, I remember that feeling as a child when the dog days of summer seemed to soldier on endlessly. Bottom line, they’re ready, and so am I. Let me just say I am ready for a routine, not so ready for helping with homework, packing lunches and the chaos of getting everyone out the door in the morning, but I will get there … eventually.

Amanda's daughter's notebook
As we gathered our school supplies several weeks ago, I discovered a surprise on my youngest daughter’s notebook. Her big sister had created a collage of photographs of her little sister complete with captions like: “nice,” “creative,” “dancer.” It honestly brought

tears to my eyes. They can be the worst enemies at times, and the best of friends at times.

They are sisters.

The find confirmed for me that we are definitely starting this school year off on the right foot.
