As they say, breastfeeding is natural, but sometimes it doesn't come naturally.

If you're looking for support and advice or just want to talk to other moms who are breastfeeding, there are plenty of people in the Triangle willing to help.

 

  • La Leche League hosts regular meetings across the Triangle. Members offer advice and support for new moms.

  • A local group of experienced mothers who work to encourage breastfeeding and support women who nurse their children.

  • The group works to increase the number of mothers who achieve their personal breastfeeding goals and to increase their satisfaction with the care and support that they receive.

  • Duke Medicine offers classes, support and outpatient lactation consultations.

  • The Raleigh hospital offers classes, lactation consultants and its Lactation Station, where breastfeeding supplies are for sale.

  • The Chapel Hill hospital offers lactation services, classes and a toll free "Warmline" where lactation consultants field calls about breastfeeding.

  • The Chapel Hill center's boutique sells nursing bras and other breastfeeding supplies.

  • WakeMed offers breastfeeding classes at its Raleigh and Cary locations.

  • The bank collects milk from moms who donate it and distributes it to babies in need.

  • Ann Conlon-Smith provides a variety of services for breatfeeding moms from home visits to classes to breast pump rentals and nursing bra sales.

  • The Morrisville store sells breastfeeding products and offers breastfeeding classes and support, including a weekly breastfeeding cafe.

  • Beyond Birth provides professional home visits for breastfeeding help in the Triangle and beyond. It also sells and rents hospital grade breast pumps and rents scales for babies whose weights need to be closely monitored.

  • In addition to offering support prenatally and during labor and delivery, the doula also helps moms with breastfeeding.

  • Susan O'Hara-Brill provides lactation consultation and postpartum doula support for moms in the western Triangle.

  • Cindi Freeman, a private lactation consultant, makes home visits.

  • The Raleigh store sells nursing bras, catering to moms with hard-to-find sizes.

  • The Apex store carries a variety of products for nursing moms including Motherlove Nipple Butter, More Milk Plus capsules, breastfeeding pillows, medela pumps, Calma bottles, nursing covers, resuable nursing pads, nursing tanks and bras. A Bravado certified bra fitter is on staff.

  • Owner Colleen Parrish is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant who offers in-home lactation consults for expectant and new moms and a regular clinic at Growing Child Pediatrics.

  • The Raleigh store has certified nursing bra fitting specialists, Bravado and Medela nursing bras, breast pumps, nursing covers, and breastfeeding accessories.

  • The institute works to make breastfeeding possible for mothers around the world.

  • The state agency provides information about breastfeeding and how businesses can support it.

  • The group is a coalition of groups that supports and promotes breastfeeding in North Carolina
