Carolina Theatre in downtown Durham offers a variety of shows for kid and families. Most are scheduled on weekdays for school groups, but individual families are welcome.
The Raleigh Little Theatre near Cameron Village in Raleigh offers all kinds of shows and programs for kids - from camps and youth theater programs to a series of shows designed just for families.
For families this year, Broadway Series South in Raleigh plans "Shrek the Musical."

The series at the Cary Arts Center includes Sleeping Beauty, a young person's guide to instruments and Farmer Jason.
