One Big Urinal

I realize the last few blog posts have been centered around the bathroom, well guess what, so has my life recently.  But, I promise this will be the last for a while...I hope.

As you might guess, the boy takes center stage in this one, again.  He's actually doing very well lately with potty training.  He hasn't had an accident in a while.  That is if  you call pooping or peeing in his pants an accident.  The urine sprayed on my bathroom walls is another story...and today's post.

I always try to go into the bathroom with him when it's time to go, especially when he needs to go #2.  He seems to forget that most of the time #2 is preceded by #1.  I'm constantly reminding him that all of his parts need to be in the bowl and facing down.  Well this particular time I had my hands full with my 17month old.  I was rushing to get in there because I knew I would totally regret it later.  And...I did.

When I walked in, my son was sitting on the toilet, spraying the opposite wall.  It was a fountain of urine running down the wall, over the baseboards and all over the floor.   I yelled for him to stop.  He just stared at me.  You've probably seen on a tv show or movie where the knob comes off a faucet and the water comes shooting out.  The person tries to block the flow of water with their hands and it's just deflected everywhere...yeah, that was me.

When I finally got that under control, I noticed his head was wet and there was liquid dripping down his face.  And you thought the wall fountain was the highlight.  How the heck does one pee on their head, sitting on the toilet????????  And no he wasn't leaning back.  Unbelievable!!!  Just when I thought I'd seen it all.  I need to get one of those Elizabethan looking collars they put around a dogs neck to keep it from getting at a wound...and put it around his waist.

That is funny, Linda! I have to say when my boys were learning about #1 I deferred to my husband. I actually asked him to go in the bathroom and show them the fine points of standing up and aiming. Definitely not a Mom's area of expertise! LOL

I can about guess what happened to cause the urine to get on his head. His "Wiggle" (as I call it because of the Wiggles on TV) must have been pushed against the seat in an upward direction and when he released the stream, it shot up... and onto his head. I have to constantly remind my two 3 1/2-year-old boys to "tuck it in the seat" so I don't have to go through the same thing you are talking about. He will get it and this may have helped him get it quicker.

Lynda, It sounds like you have had a time with the little fellow. My girlfriend suggested you sit him backward on the potty and instruct him to hold it down in the bowl. She claims that it worked for her little son. He is now 2 1/2 and can accomplish it very well. She also has a total of 2 children. I just realize how tough my mother had it when there were 5 under the age of 8 and we all survived and did well (so did Mom). Lots of Luck. Tidymaid

Linda, It's been awhile - there used to be an attachment to potty seats - a cup that fit in the front of the seat to deflect forward moving liquids. I don't know if this attachment is available on any brand of potty seat any more, as I said, it's been awhile.

And how many bathrooms do you have?

When my 2 kids were young we all had to share one very small bathroom. I remember thinking, "well at least I only have to clean up one (1) little space at a time"!

You make me glad I only have girls! The trials of motherhood... never ending. :) I'm right there with you. I have an almost 5, almost 3 and 16 months old. Never a dull moment!

Bless your heart! The things moms go through. When my nephew was potty training, he was standing in front of the toilet doing #1, and my sister was standing behind him. He became curious about the whole process and turned his "part" around to take a closer look. He shot urine in both his face and my sister's hair and face. They both came out of the bathroom, dripping wet, crying and laughing at the same time. Good luck to you!

Lynda,

I have a 3 1/2 year old little boy and have been going through a lot of the same things as you. He is my one and only and I never knew it would be so hard to get them to go potty. He is really doing well right now but he did backslide for a couple of weeks and wanted to test mommie and see if he could start doing #2 in his undies again... I think we are through that. He is really good about holding his "parts" down. I just told him that we always pushed him down when doing #2. As for the cup in the potty seat...ours has it and he just takes it out.. it didn't work with him. Keep on posting!!!

You have made me smile today! My boys are all grown men now and I have 4 grandsons! I dont do the potty training anymore but I do help when they are with me. My big boys were taught by their dad to stand when they got tall enough. Until then we did the very very thick phone book to stand on if they wanted to stand. Also heard that the standing, with use of cheerios put in the toilet to "aim" at helps alot. It will get better, I promise, Lynda! But remember, as it does, that means they get older and the older they get, the less you are needed! Wish I could have kept my boys small but then if I had, I would have 5 beautiful grandchildren to love and spoil rotten! ;)

This is the most hilarious story I have ever read. I almost choked on my lunch. Lynda, I have 3 boys. The youngest is 2 1/2. I can only say I understand completely. I must mop their bathroom at least 3 times per week for the exact same reason. I've even had to wipe down walls and wash the towels that were hanging on the rack (yes, both racks the one in front of the potty and the one behind the potty just depending on where they were - and you might have guessed they were clean of course!) because when they let it go they really let it go! Even the oldest - he is 8 - says that he forgets to point it southward. Once he gets a little older you can train him to stand up and go #1 before he takes a seat for the other. Your stories crack me up!
