Gymnastics

It's started.  I enrolled the kids, the two oldest, in their first "activity."  I've kinda been holding out because I know once it starts, it's gonna be constant for the next 18 years.

I chose gymnastics.  I thought maybe if the kids bounced off the walls somewhere else, they wouldn't do it at home.  My plan was just to enroll Campbell.  But then I thought, do I want to run after Caiden and keep track of Carys from the sidelines for an hour?  So I enrolled Caiden, too.  Only, it's a Mommy and me class.  I don't know what I was thinking.  Because I still had to run after Caiden and keep track of Carys.

I thought I was so prepared.  Before we left home, I packed water and snacks for the kids and breakfast for Carys and me.  I thought I would feed Carys and eat breakfast while Campbell and Caiden were taking class.

We get there and I realize I completely forgot Caiden was in the Mommy and me class.  I swear I've lost my mind sometimes.  All my pre-planning goes straight down the toilet.   So Carys and I, both hungry, follow Campbell and Caiden onto the mat.  I've got to carry Carys through the whole thing, because being the idiot I am, I didn't bring a baby carrier.

We all sit down in a circle and begin stretching.  I'm trying to tell myself to be positive.  Campbell's doing fine and at least Caiden isn't up running around and screaming.  But then he spots the big ropes hanging from the ceiling.  They're hanging a few feet off the ground.  He of course grabs one and launches it straight at me.  I turn and it hits me, the big knotted end, right between the eyes.  I'll pause while you chuckle...........I push the rope away and tell Caiden to leave it alone.  Well of course that rope is still in motion.  So when I turn my head, it hits me in the back of my head..........An expletive or two raced through my mind.  Maybe more like three.   I muster the strength to look at the group of about 10-15 parents to see if they saw what just took place.   Considering that I'm 6'1 with a baby stuck on my hip and I just happen to be on TV, the answer is yes, they did.   Everyone quickly looked away and didn't say a word.

We were off to a great start!  Thank goodness it didn't get any worse.  I worked up a sweat holding Carys and running after Caiden trying to get him to do all the moves, but that was about it.

It's gotten a little better, now that I remember to bring the baby carrier for Carys.  But Caiden is still a handful.  We'll see how it goes this Saturday.

i know what you're going through. i have five year old twin girls in dance and girlscouts and it's about to run me ragged.

Lynda, the rope thing has me laughing...sorry. As the mother of 2 two year olds and a 4 year old, I feel your pain!

Lynda, I needed a good laugh, thanks for sharing and being honest in your blog....oh by the way I am a mother of 3 kids,my oldest is 8,middle is 6,and my youngest is 3 yrs old. I'll be checking to see how it goes in the future :o)

Just wait till all three want to play in a different sport than the other and you agree to it!!! Then you think to yourself that you must be really nuts or they caught you on the toilet and you just said "yes" to have a moment of peace. Then this will be the time in your life that you go to work to rest! Oh the joy of kids, but I would not change it for anything.

Awh, young motherhood. Lynda, you will look back 20 years from now and wonder where you got the energy. Love your stories, keep 'em coming.

You have more guts than I do.

You remind me why I signed my 3 year old up for gymnastics and dance at her daycare. But, I know if I had your courage, something like that would have happened to me, no doubt!

Lynda, I love your blog - it is so open and honest. Anyone that has reared children or are in the process can commiserate and laugh with you. Thank you for sharing - it is so uplifting. My Grandmother always said when they are little they are on your toes, but when they grow up they are on your heart, so enjoy!!!
