Octigator

I'm constantly amazed at how smart kids are these days.  Take my 4 year old, Campbell for instance.  She was drawing an alligator, but it had 6 legs.  My husband said, "Your alligator has 6 legs.  They only have 4."   Without skipping a beat, Campbell drew 2 more legs and announced, "This is an octigator!"   I've gotta say, I was pretty impressed.

Ok, I know I wasn't that quick and that clever at that age.  I know, because every time my mom is around my kids, she tells me so.  In a loving way, of course. :-)

Would you all like to share some clever kid moments?  If so, write away...

My 22 month old son and I were loving on our pet poodle the other evening when I told him to be careful because Lexie does not feel to good. He jumps from the couch yelling something my husband and I can not uderstand, I finally ask him to show daddy what he wanted. He runs to the cabinet for the tylenol and I reply babie you do not need tylenol, he replies no mommy Lexie:)

Last weekend, I was in the yard with my grandson when he wanted me to climb into his "clubhouse" and go down the slide. Having recently been diagnosed with a bulging disc in my back, I told him I could sit in the clubhouse, but I was sad that I couldn't slide, because my back had a "boo boo". I told him I was going to the doctor to make it better. His grandfather then asked him if he needed to go to the doctor, to which he replied no, grandaddy, my back's happy.

At the first NC State football game of the season, my almost 2yr old looked at me after a tackle and said, "Mommie, they fell down." :-)

Our son, about 3 at the time, would ask for everything he saw. His response would be "I want that". Our response to him many times was "You don't need that". Eventually he began saying to us, "I need that". Children are very perceptive and smart.

My 3 yr old great grandson was riding his bike with his flip flops on and his feet were slipping off the pedals.I ask him to come in and put his sneakers on. Well, he starts crying because he doesn't want to leave his bike long enough to come in.He finally gets to the porch and tells me that I'm getting on his nerves and he is tired of me calling him.I wondered what he knew about getting on someones nerves.

I'm a boater and fisherman, and my daughter has been my companion since she was about 3 years old. My wife, on the other hand, doesn't like boating and rarely goes with us. On time when my daughter was about 4, we were all coming in to dock and I asked my wife to "get a line ready". My wife got immediately flustered and said "what's a line? Noboduy understands that boat talk!". My daughter, very calmly and cooly said "it's a rope Mommy".

I was cooking dinner one evening and my four year old daughter asked what I was cooking. I told her that we were having meatloaf, green peas and rice. She looked at me with the most serious face and said, "Mama, I don't want no dirty rice, I want clean rice." We had just eaten at Bojangles the day before and my husband had ordered dirty rice. I thought that was so funny and original.

My oldest daughter (now 4) when she first started singing "Old McDonald" would sing "Old Mickey Donald" instead.

As we were leaving the caregiver's house one afternoon, she was lagging behind. I was in a bit of a hurry and snapped at her "to shake a leg!" She promptly stopped walking, stood on one foot and shook the other.

My youngest at 2 1/2 was watching "Little House on the Prairie" and Laura was sad and hurt because her father did not react to something the way she wanted him to. My daughter looked at me and asked "Why is Laura so disappointed?" Needless to say, I just stopped for a moment and asked her to repeat the question.

My 5 year old has learned the Pledge of Allegiance in school. She is very proud that she can recite it all. She recited it for us and has it all completely right until the end......

One nation under God Indivisible With "lizard teeth" and justice for all.

I am an elementary teacher, so, I could write a book of funny stories. Starting a new year at a new school, I used the 2 truths and a lie ice breaker with a 5th grade class. The way it works is you say 3 things about yourself: 2 are true and 1 is not. They have to guess which one is a lie. My statements were 1. I have met Michael Jordan. 2. I have a Doberman Pinscher. 3. I have 3 kids. Before I told them the untruth, I let them guess which one they thought was the lie. The first two were true. One kid said "you have to have 3 kids." To which I replied, "How do you say that so matter of factly?" He said "Because you're married." That was funny enough that they thought you had to have kids if you were married. I then told them I don't have any kids. One then said "So, why are you married?" That was funny to me.
