My First Summer in NC: Hot But Happy

It may be hot here, but I must admit...it's the best summer I've had in eight years.

Despite the record heat and high temperatures, I am spending a huge amount of time outdoors and I love it. I've spent more time outside with my girls this month alone, than I did during the entire summer in Florida.

For all of you who find it unbearable, or think I'm slightly off my rocker, go to South Florida for a week. You'll be high-tailing it back here so fast you won't know what hit you.

I couldn't help but laugh at myself this morning when I heard on NPR that the high would be 100 degrees. "That's not bad," I thought. I know, pretty crazy thought in retrospect, but I really meant it.

I guess living in Florida has increased my threshold for heat a great deal.

But I'm grateful, because instead of sitting in the house, I am enjoying the beauty of the area, and reconnecting with nature.

Sure, there may be an overabundance of flying insects that I can't seem to identify, but at least the outside of my house isn't covered with those pesky Florida geckos, and I don't have to be on the lookout for my neighbor's iguana.

So, if you're fed up with the weather and allowing it to keep you trapped inside, please know that I'm enjoying it enough for all of us.

I'm really beginning to like this state. I think I'll stay awhile.

Glad you've decided to stay awhile!

Angela, I believe you've turned into a better North Carolian than myself. This heat is m m meeellttiinngg me. Hope you continue to enjoy our great state and choose to keep it your home. I'm kinda partial to it myself.

We're glad you've decided to stay! If you can stand this heat... you're worthy of living in NC. With a little breeze, it's not that bad.... really!

It only gets better (or worse) from here on!! Ask Greg Fishel. This August is set to be the warmest (;0) on record!! Glad to have you here in NC!!

Glad you're here. Sorry the weather is hot but sounds like it ain't too hot for you. Enjoy!

Well we are happy you chose NC to make your new home. I've been here my entire life, and I can't imagine anywhere else as home.

If you like Wake in August, then you really do like Wake. Welcome.
