We had been looking forward to a fun camping trip with friends for Memorial Day weekend. We had been planning it for a couple of months and thinking the whole time about how it would go now that Reese is 19 months. We decided to head to Fayetteville, WV to kayak the New River Gorge. I posted a couple of pictures above. It's a beautiful place and we go there several times a year.
The last time we took Reese camping was last summer when she was 9 months old. At that point she was crawling but not walking. Now she's not just walking but running and saying a lot of words. The biggest issue was going to be sleeping. We have a big van with a sleeping platform in the back. It's built up high enough to store stuff under it so it's tall enough for Reese to fall (or climb) off of on either end. We thought this trip we may have to sleep in a tent so that we could put her in the pack 'n play but at the last minute I had an idea. We were able to remove the last panel in the platform and set up the pack 'n play in the van with us. It worked great!
We were camping with two other families with kids Reese's age so it was really nice. It is possible to do two runs on the New River Gorge in one day so the moms ran the river in the morning and the dads in the afternoon swapping babysittling duties. The kids had a great time playing in the mud on the river bank. Back at camp one of the moms had a kiddie pool. I took all of Reese's clothes off for her to play in the pool and she loved it. After about 10 minutes she said something that sounded like "stinky". She's certainly not potty trained and sometimes I don't read her signals too well....this time was definitely my fault. You know where this is going. About 30 seconds later she added another floating "toy" to the pool. She told me ahead of time though!! So.... I had to scramble around and clean it up and refill the pool, etc. You know it's always going to be an adventure.
Camping with Reese is a lot of fun though and we'll go again soon.
