Is 41 Cents Too Much for a Stamp?

You’ve probably heard the news by now that the price of a first-class stamp is catapulting to a whopping 41 cents.

I know that this was big news two days ago, but I’m just now realizing that I’m not happy about it.
You may think this increase is small potatoes or that I’m some cheapskate for even bringing it up and you’re certainly entitled to your opinion.

But when will it end?

My mailing obligations grow with every move, and they seem to have tripled with my recent move here.

And contrary to popular belief, e-mail has not wiped out the need or desire for snail mail.

I don’t know about yours but my grandmother does not want e-mailed photos of her great- grandchildren. I’ll admit that electronic photos do tend to hold off some folks for a while, but they all start bugging me for the real thing shortly after.

Okay, so they’re instituting this so-called FOREVER stamp concept, which allows you to lock in at the new 41 cent rate NOW and never pay a penny more even as rates increase in the future.

That’s nice, but how do I know that I can trust the chairman of the postal board to hold true to his word? I don’t have a personal relationship with James C. Miller III.

Do you?

When asked if he was worried about people “hoarding” stamps or buying them in droves, he said no, then went on to say that they won’t be produced in massive rolls.

Well, of course he isn’t worried about hoarding if he’s CONTROLLING the amount they produce.

The fix is in, people.

I'm not wasting my time on the forever stamps. I’ll just start hoarding the one-cent stamp instead.

Angela, I have been buying what are call "semipostal" stamps for years. These stamps are good thru price chances. No more one cent stamps. But more importantly the stamps that I buy support the Breast Cancer Foundation.A win win situation.Something you might want to look into. NCRN

I live with the Post Office and they are trying to cut out Saurday delivery but they are getting resistance to it. There are things to the Post office that you guys don't know and I am not at liberty to discuss but the stamp rates get raised for a varity of reasons.

This is ludicrous! I remember when postage was 6 cents. All through my school days and career, its jet been creeping up and up. A stupid letter doesn't cost that much.

Cut out Saturday delivery and the Post Office would save billion$.

I get so sick of this. It's not the expense, but the fact that I have to keep buying new stamp books. I send about 10 pieces of mail a year. Everytime they raise rates, I have to go buy those cheesy upgrade stamps.

The "forever" stamp is good with me, so long as they hold their word. How about a law to back it up?
