Open adoption, broken hearts
salon.com. It is definitely worth a read - don't let the title fool you, the broken hearts part is more about the process of placement, nothing went wrong with the open adoption. In fact, it seems to be going very well.
Salon.com is a pay per view site but you can just watch a short ad to get a free pass for the day when you click the link above to the story (I think today's ad is HBO and the Sopranos).
The subhead reads, "I knew it would be hard for my daughter's birth mother to give her up. I just didn't expect to feel so guilty for taking her." So very true - I think as adoptive parents we always have to deal with some unexpected guilt. Parenting is tough work but in those quiet moments of pure joy like they are sleeping like an angel, making a basket or dancing across a stage and your heart soars, you feel a pang or at least I do. You learn about gratitude no matter the circumstances of placement.
I know several of you have been waiting for me to post more about our personal adoption journey and I'm working on it now I promise.
