JONESBORO, GA — Every year the Clayton County Library System hosts a series of summer activities and events for youngsters throughout the community.

This summer's theme was "Building a Better World." In keeping with the theme, the library system believes that having conversations with young men is one of the first steps to "Building a Better World," according to library officials.

On July 31, the Jonesboro Library partnered with Good News Barbershop to reach out to young men attending high school and discuss issues affecting them, their goals and aspirations, the importance of reading, and their plans for a successful upcoming school year and beyond.

The program, Grooming Boys to Men: The Barbershop Talk culminated summer activities by helping teens prepare mentally for the opening of 2017-18 school year with complimentary haircuts while engaging them in meaningful and healthy conversations. The event brought more than 20 participants who took part in conversations about education, reading, law enforcement, trade and entrepreneurship and money management.

At the end of the program, Jonesboro Library gave participating teens pens and books to start the school year off on the right foot.
