Lejeune Marines, Bragg soldier killed in Afghanistan

Two Marines based at Camp Lejeune and a Fort Bragg soldier were killed in Afghanistan on Saturday, the Defense Department announced Monday.

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — Two Marines based at Camp Lejeune and a Fort Bragg soldier were killed in Afghanistan on Saturday, the Defense Department announced Monday.

Marine Sgt. Sean T. Callahan, 23, of Warrenton, Va., and Lance Cpl. Dominic J. Ciaramitaro, 19, of South Lyon, Mich., died in combat in Helmand province.

They were assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune.

Army Sgt. 1st Class Benjamin F. Bitner, 37, of Greencastle, Pa., died in Kandahar province when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group.
