Lejeune Marine, seaman killed in Afghanistan

Two men based at Camp Lejeune were killed Tuesday in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Thursday.

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — Two men based at Camp Lejeune were killed Tuesday in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Thursday.

Marine Lance Cpl. Robert S. Greniger, 21, of Greenfield, Minn., died while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, officials said.

Greniger was a combat engineer assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.

His mother said he switched units in order to deploy, noting that he wanted to serve in Afghanistan.

Seaman Aaron D. Ullom, 20, of Midland, Mich., died while conducting a dismounted patrol in the Now Zad district of the Helmand province, officials said.

Ullom was assigned as a hospitalman to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 8, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.
